CLEVELAND -- A year ago, Casey Mize was left off the roster for the Detroit Tigers’ playoff series against the Cleveland Guardians.
But after an All-Star season and a strong finish to the regular season, Mize will be getting the ball for a critical game.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced Tuesday that Mize will start in Game 2 of the best-of-three Wild Card Series, following Game 1 starter Tarik Skubal.
If there’s a third game, right-hander Jack Flaherty would get the ball.
Hinch joked with Mize that they should exorcise demons from last year by having the conversation in the same spot where he found out that he was being dropped from the roster.
The news was much better this time around.
