MASON CITY, Iowa - The Mason City community is rallying around a Mason City police officer that is battling cancer by hosting a fundraiser.

According to the Mason City Police Department's Facebook page, in August, officer Dan Borchardt was diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

One of the MCPD officers has started a fundraising page with clothing items that carry messages of support for Borchardt. Proceeds from the sales go directly to the family.

According MCPD, Borchardt served in the United States Marine Corps for 20 years and has been serving as a Mason City Police officer ever since.
