PRESIDENT Donald Trump has unveiled a direct-to-consumer website dubbed TrumpRx that he said will make drugs 80% cheaper for Americans.

The new platform will enable individuals to pay cash for certain medications at a lower rate negotiated by the government.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump said that some prescription drugs would be discounted for average Americans, and all medicines would be cheaper for Medicaid recipients.

The lowered prices were made available thanks to a deal with the major pharmaceutical industry company Pfizer .

Trump said that Pfizer would "offer countless prescription medications at major discounts in the United States, a result of the 'most favored nation' drug pricing order that we established earlier this year."
