(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento City Council selected Maraskeshia Smith to be the next city manager on Tuesday.

According to the city council, over the last two decades, Smith has held a number of administrative positions in Stockton, Oakland and Cincinnati, Ohio. She currently serves as the city manager for the City of Santa Rosa.

Smith is the first Black woman to serve as Sacramento City Manager, the city council said.

"As City Manager, my vision is to create an environment where every resident, business owner and volunteer feels seen, heard and valued," Smith said in a press release.
