Maraskeshia Smith is expected to be named Sacramento’s next city manager, according to City Hall sources.

She would be the first Black woman to hold the position.

The City Council will vote on Smith, Santa Rosa’s city manager, in a closed session Tuesday morning ahead of a press conference.

Smith’s office in Santa Rosa did not confirm or deny that she was a candidate for the position, which has been vacant since Dec. 31, when Howard Chan’s contract was not extended. Assistant City Manager Leyne Milstein has served in an interim capacity since Jan. 14. Smith’s reported selection follows a national search, the city said.
