A teenage boy and young man were critically injured in a shooting in the city’s South Shore neighborhood Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The teen, 17, and the man, 26, were standing in an alley on the 2500 block of East 78th Street just before 3:40 p.m. when an unknown assailant approached and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The teen was shot in the chest while the man sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body, police said. They were both transported to UChicago Medicine in critical condition.

Calumet area detectives were investigating.
