SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Discovery Center in downtown Springfield is hosting its grand opening for a new interactive exhibit promoting fire safety in partnership with the Springfield Fire Department and Fire Master Fire Equipment.

The exhibit allows kids to have a hands-on experience exploring the cab of a fire truck, putting on kids' size firefighter suits, simulating putting out a fire with a hose and sliding down a fire pole.

On top of the fun experience, there are real-life lessons woven into the exhibit, like whether you should open a cool door handle or a warm door handle when there is a fire.

"Kids are gonna learn how to stay low, if there is a fire in their house, how to stay low and get out," said CEO of the Discovery Center, Tyler Moles. "They're going to learn how to make a 911
