The John B. Cade Library on Southern University's campus was evacuated Tuesday morning after the university received a potential threat.

Witnesses said authorities, including Baton Rouge Police Department, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, have closed the street outside the library.

The library will stay closed throughout the day as a precautionary measure, a release from Southern said.

"For your safety, we ask that everyone avoid the area surrounding the library until an all-clear is issued. Campus police and emergency personnel are on site and actively managing the situation," the release said.

This is a developing story.
