A sexually violent predator has moved into community corrections in Grand Junction, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Michael Preston Owen, 44, is living at 436 South Seventh Street, according to GJPD. Owen’s criminal history includes a conviction for attempted sexual assault on a child from earlier this year.

States are required to register and track sex offenders, according to a GJPD video announcing Owen’s move to town, as well as notify residents where sex offenders live.

“In general, these laws mean sex offenders have a lesser right to privacy, and the community and law enforcement have a right to know who they are and where they live to keep people safe,” GJPD sergeant Michelle Czajkowski said.
