Joseph Gene Hoek, accused of murdering a Moody County law enforcement officer, will face his next hearing on Oct. 3 after a judge denied its delay.

Hoek and his defense had sought to delay the hearing, which will contain the judge's decision on the defense's motion for a change of venue in Hoek's upcoming trial, to allow for the completion of a jury consultant report. Despite the defense's arguments that the report is key to ensuring Hoek receives a fair trial, Judge Gregory J. Stoltenburg ultimately denied the request. ×
