A 15-year-old boy was killed in an apartment fire last week in Kansas City, Kansas, officials said Tuesday.

When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the upper apartment windows and learned someone may still be inside.

After entering the apartment, firefighters found an unresponsive 15-year-old boy on the second floor.

Firefighters got him out of the apartment, and emergency crews began "advanced life support," but he was pronounced dead at a hospital around an hour and a half later.

Firefighters searched the other apartments and did not find any additional victims. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion, and a resident was taken to the
