ST. CHARLES — A St. Charles mother has been charged with first-degree murder after police say she shot her son while he slept and then stabbed him after he cried out, "Mommy."
Prosecutors here have also charged Krista Roy, 47, on Tuesday with one count of armed criminal action. Roy, who lives in the 3200 block of Lightfoot Drive, is in custody.
According to court documents, she told police that she wanted to kill her son and had stolen a handgun from her ex-husband's house on Friday as she planned to kill her son and then to fatally shoot herself.
She told police that shot her son, 16, multiple times while he was sleeping. After shooting him, Roy told described to police how she got into the bed and began caressing her son's body.
