All-rounder Deepti Sharma entered her name in the history books on Tuesday, September 30, by becoming the first Indian to score a fifty and take three wickets as well in a Women’s ODI World Cup match. In the first match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 played between India and Sri Lanka at Barspara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, Deepti bowled 10 overs and picked up 3 wickets for 54 runs.

She opened her wicket account by breaching Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s defence on the last ball of the 15th over. During her stay at the crease, Chamari Athapaththu faced 47 balls and scored 43 runs.

Deepti’s second wicket came in the form of Kavisha Dilhari, who made 15 runs from 12 balls. Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh completed her catch on the second ball of the 27th over.
