ELLSWORTH -- The city of Ellsworth is making a big acquisition.
They are going to buy about 500 street lights that they are currently leasing from Versant.
IT Systems administrator Jason Ingalls says the city already owns all of the decorative lights downtown.
He says buying these ones will be a significant cost savings for the city.
"Even with the debt for the new purchase we are saving about 40 thousand a year right off the bat.
Ingalls says they have a purchase and sale agreement with versant and the city expects to buy the lights in a couple of weeks.
They will be converting them to LED.
He says the project should be completed in April or May.
