BUXTON, N.C. — Five houses collapsed in Buxton on the Outer Banks as a result of Hurricane Humberto and Hurricane Imelda on Tuesday, bringing strong surf to the southeast coast.
The recent collapses add to the already large tally, marking the 13th through 17th house collapses in the past five years. The most recent house collapse occurred just two weeks ago.
13News Now's Alex Littlehales was on the scene observing damage from the first house collapse when four more neighboring homes fell into the sea.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore later said all five houses were unoccupied at the time of the collapse, and they all collapsed between approximately 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.
