BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina man is dead after a crash in Bertie County early Tuesday morning.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the collision at 6:01 a.m. on Blackrock Road.

The crash involved a tractor-trailer and a Chevrolet pickup truck. The tractor-trailer driver, Tyshaun Hayes, 29, of Merry Hill, N.C., was backing the tractor-trailer across Blackrock Road into a private driveway. The pickup truck was driving south on Blackrock Road and crashed into the portion of the tractor-trailer that was across the roadway.

The pickup driver, James Edward Hughson, 52, of Colerain, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
