WASHINGTON — Federal food safety officials are warning consumers to throw away or return certain ready-to-eat pasta meals sold at Walmart, Albertsons, Safeway and Trader Joe's that may be contaminated with listeria and linked to a deadly outbreak.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert last week for Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce sold in 12-ounce clear plastic trays and Trader Joe's Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettucine Alfredo sold in 16-ounce trays.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention along with other federal agencies are currently investigating the source of the listeria outbreak.
