SALT LAKE CITY — A wildfire now called the Dry Creek Fire was burning around two miles above the University of Utah on Tuesday on state lands in Salt Lake County.

According to Kelly Wickens with the Utah Fire info, the fire reached 50 acres by 10 a.m. Originally, the Salt Lake City Fire Department said crews were not able to reach the fire on foot due to rough terrain, but eventually crews were able to fight the fire.

“We have a unified command with SLCFD, the Forestry, Fire and State Lands and the Forest Service,” the SLCFD said. “Stay out of City Creek as well as trails along the foothills behind City Creek, Dry Creek, and the Avenues.”

As of 7 a.m., no structures were threatened by the fire, and crews are asking the public to avoid using drones in the area.
