TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The minimum wage in Florida increased to $14 an hour on Tuesday.

The gradual increase is part of the state’s larger plan from voters back in 2020 to eventually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, which is what the wage is expected to increase to next year. After that, the wage will be adjusted based on inflation.

Employees who receive tips are also expected to see a $1 increase.

Previously, base pay for employees who received tips was $9.98. However, as of Tuesday, it is now $10.98.

Sam Staley, an economist from Florida State University and director of the Devoe L. Moore Center in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, said there are a number of impacts that come from the increase in minimum wage. However, he said not all of the impacts are good
