CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians missed out on a golden opportunity to score the tying run in the bottom of the ninth when Jose Ramírez was caught in a rundown with one out after reaching third base to lead off the inning.

Detroit hangs on to win, 2-1 and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three wild card series.

Starting pitchers Gavin Williams of Cleveland and Detroit’s Tarik Skubal were incredible, with Skubal lasting 7 2/3 innings, striking out 14 and departing in the eighth with the lead.
