Cameron McGrone’s time with his hometown Indianapolis Colts could be coming to an end.

The former Michigan linebacker was waived by the Colts on Tuesday as the team claimed linebacker Buddy Johnson from the Cowboys in a corresponding move.

McGrone, a 2021 fifth-round pick of Indianapolis, had played a career-high 43 defensive snaps in 2025 after playing eight total over his first three seasons. The 6-foot-1, 236-pounder opened the season splitting time with former Michigan State linebacker Joe Bachie on the weak side, but Bachie has since seized the starting role.

McGrone has been a mainstay on special teams during his career but didn’t see any defensive snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. If he goes unclaimed, he can be signed to the Colts’ practice squad.
