17 area restaurants receive grant to combat food insecurity

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Over a dozen western Massachusetts restaurants have been awarded grants from MassDevelopment, the state’s development finance agency, to help combat food insecurity in the region.

The money will be used by these local restaurants to prepare and supply meals for nonprofit meal distributors who can get that food to those who need it most.

Of the 31 total recipients, 17 are right here in western Massachusetts. Their awards range from $7,000 To over $34,500.
