ST. PAUL — Negotiations for the parameters of a special session between Gov. Tim Walz and legislative leaders are reaching an impasse, leaders said Tuesday.
Walz and DFL leaders have been negotiating behind closed doors for weeks over what the divided state Legislature could get done in a special session in response to the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting in August and the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their family members in June.
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, Walz’s office released one of the negotiation offers he and DFL leaders gave to Republicans. The offer, which has not been signed by Republicans, asks that a special session be confined to nine bills — four related to gun control, and five related to school safety, public safety and mental health.
