Helena City Manager Tim Burton, who is the head of city staff, will retire at the end of the year, he announced Tuesday.

Burton was selected by the City Commission to be the interim city manager in March 2022, city spokesperson Amanda Opitz wrote in a press release. In March 2023, he was unanimously chosen for the permanent position.

Burton previously served as the Helena city manager from 2000-2009, the press release states.

In a letter to the commission, Burton celebrated the city's achievements during his tenure. He highlighted investments in infrastructure, planning and improving the city’s ability to recruit and retain qualified staff.
