Erin Patterson is spending her first birthday behind bars as a convicted triple murderer.

The killer cook turned 51 inside the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Melbourne‘s west on Tuesday.

She’s been held in the maximum security prison since she was charged with the murder of three former in-laws and the attempted murder of another in November 2023.

The Department of Justice confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au that there are no privileges for birthdays in custody.

This means Patterson will be spending her 51st birthday the same way she will spend every other day behind bars.

Earlier this month the mother-of-two was sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 33 years.

Patterson, née Scutter, was born in Adelaide on September 30, 1974.
