LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Supporters of Louisville’s independent, and at times controversial, Inspector General wonder if he will be allowed to stay on the job.

Edward Harness was hired after a national search at a time when the public was calling for more civilian oversight of LMPD. His contract with the city ends Nov. 30.

“People trust him. They believe in him,” Louisville NAACP President Raymond Burse said. “He’s brought back a sense of that there is a person within city government who is honest, direct and friendly to the community, willing to meet with the community, and that he’s willing to stand up for what he believes is right.”

Charged with investigating complaints and reviewing the practices and policies of LMPD, Harness has not shied away from conflict.
