LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The superintendent for Jefferson County Public Schools says the district will have to make some “very difficult decisions” to make up for a $188 million budget deficit.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Dr. Brian Yearwood said Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) leaders will be looking at ways to cut $132 million from the 2026-2027 school year.
“In recent years, JCPS has relied on one-time funding sources,” he explained. “This included prior budget surpluses and federal COVID-19 relief funds. These funds allowed the district to maintain services during a challenging period. These funds are no longer available.”
