MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – McKinley County District Attorney Bernadine Martin is asking for more time to respond to the push to remove her from office. It's been a little over a month since New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez made the removal request, saying Martin has "consistently failed, neglected, or refused" to do her job as McKinley County's DA. The New Mexico Supreme Court gave Martin 30 days to turn over case records to the AG's Office, and instead of doing so, she asked for thirty more days. The AG is requesting information on cases DA Martin declined to prosecute or dismissed, dating back to her first day in office in 2021.

This request came after KRQE Investigates uncovered that DA Martin dismissed two major criminal cases against an accused rapist and an accused murder
