WHITEHORSE - Elections Yukon says it is making changes to how some people can vote in the upcoming territorial election in response to the Canada Post strike.

It says Canada Post was the main carrier in the 2021 election for sending and returning special ballots used by 17 per cent of voters, including those who may have been out of the territory.

For this election, which has to be called by Friday, special ballot kits for voters outside of the Yukon will be sent by courier and a return courier envelope will also be provided and paid for by Elections Yukon.

The statement says voters will also be allowed to go to any returning office in the territory to apply, vote, and return their special ballot, which will then be sent to Whitehorse to be counted on election night.
