Police in Surrey say they will release more information soon about a shooting that reportedly targeted a South Asian radio station.

Former MLA Jinny Sims — who is among those behind Swift 1200 AM radio, which has a studio on 76th Avenue in Newton — told Global News on Tuesday that shots were fired at the station overnight.

Sims told Global no one was inside at the time and no one was hurt.

She said she thinks the shooting is linked to recent extortion incidents in Surrey in recent months, which led to a task force being formed earlier this month.

Surrey police are also working with the RCMP on an extortion investigation team and Chief Const. Norm Lipinski said earlier that arrests are imminent.
