WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - The clock is ticking in Washington and president Donald Trump is stepping into high-stakes negotiations aimed at stopping a government shutdown.
“With Trump at the table there is a real opportunity to move things forward because right now there is just no movement,” Democratic Congressman Don Davis said.
Trump reportedly met with top democrats as Congress races against the deadline. At stake is federal funding that keeps everything from the military to food assistance running.
“We are literally just asking to fund the government as we continue the appropriations process. They have asked for a trillion dollars in spending which is ridiculous,” Republican Congressman Greg Murphy said.
