After 50 years of operation, Bracken’s Pharmacy, 7 Water St. in East Brady, closed its doors for good this past weekend.

Local residents came out in support of the pharmacy during its final day of business on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The business announced plans to close in a Sept. 15 post on its Facebook page that cited the main reason for the closing are pharmacy benefit managers, which are third-party administrators who specialize in managing prescription drug benefits for health insurers, employers and government programs.

These managers have not permitted profitability on most prescriptions for the business, the post said, with little reimbursement from insurance companies.
