All signs are pointing toward a government shutdown after midnight Wednesday.
That's after a White House meeting between President Donald Trump and congressional leaders from both parties on Monday failed to lead to a deal.
Congressman Josh Harder, D-Tracy, spoke to KCRA 3 Tuesday about his frustration with the potential shutdown and urged congressional leaders to keep negotiating.
"Nobody benefits from a government shutdown," he said. "This could potentially lead to service members not getting paid in our military, VA benefits going unchecked for a lot of the veterans across our community."
He called for politicians to "put their political egos by the door and find their way back to the negotiating table on both sides."
