SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Thunderbirds have begun their training camp at the MassMutual Center, marking the start of the hockey season.
The Thunderbirds, an American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues, took to the ice for their first practice in Springfield on Tuesday.
"About half of our guys that will end up being here, are here right now," said Nathan Costa, President of the Springfield Thunderbirds. "There is still a lot of players in St. Louis that will cut down over the next few days."
The ice and logos were laid down last week in preparation for the players' arrival. As the St. Louis Blues finalize their roster, extra players are in Springfield to play with the Thunderbirds.
