NEWCOMB, N.Y. (WCAX) - A new program in New York looks to chip away at the housing crisis by offering affordable starter homes.

The first of 200 future starter homes is ready for viewings in the Essex County town of Newcomb.

State and local officials say the modular home could be one of the keys to the region’s chronic housing shortage.

“Fifty million dollars has been made available to scale up the installation and siding of these homes within communities within New York state,” said Crystal Loffler with the New York State Office of Community Renewal.
