RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Starting October 1st, pharmacists at retail locations in North Carolina will be able to test and treat people for the flu, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.
This comes under new standing orders from State Health Director Dr. Larry Greenblatt and is part of House Bill 67. According to NCDHHS, the goal is to make it easier for people to get care, especially those without a regular doctor.
Pharmacists will be able to assess patients ages 5 and up who are showing flu symptoms, give a flu test on the spot, and provide treatment if needed. The department says early treatment can help prevent serious illness, especially for people who are at higher risk.
