WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - It has been nearly seven years since the last government shutdown, and with another potential closure of the federal government looming, many are wondering what would be affected if operations were to cease.

The last shutdown occurred in 2019 and cost the federal government $5 billion.

Dr. Larry Straub, an associate professor of management at Newman University, said that unofficial projections for a potential 2025 shutdown could cost the travel industry approximately $1 billion per week, the broader economy around $7 billion per week, and federal workers about $400 million per day.
