GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —
WYFF 4 continues to take a deeper look into the Brutontown Cemetery, which is a burial ground for hundreds of former slaves and veterans. A recent cleanup on the site by Greenville County has sparked concerns .
Buried somewhere deep beneath the soil is the fragile memory of Abraham Sims, an enslaved man to the first president of Furman University.
"Abraham Sims worked for that plantation. He also worked for the schools - so, he worked for Furman University and Greenville Women's College," said Professor Brandon Inabinet, who is the Chair of the Taskforce on Slavery Injustice at Furman University.
Found at the Greenville County Library is Sim's death certificate, which reads Brutontown Cemetery. Professor Inabinet took WYFF 4 on a tour of the Cherrydale House
