Selma isn’t the only municipality in Dallas County that will be getting a new mayor. The town of Valley Grande also has new leadership coming into the mayor’s office.

An old familiar face will be taking over as mayor in the town of Valley Grande — come November. Dallas County Chief Deputy John Hatfield is the town’s mayor-elect.

Hatfield says he plans to work to improve roads conditions in the town. And he also wants to develop Highway 22 — the town’s main thoroughfare.

Although it’ll be about six weeks before he officially takes office — he’s already started working.

“We’ve already started meeting with council one on one and we’re certainly excited about what’s happening. We’re going to hit the ground running,” Hatfield said.
