PASCO, Wash. – Gabriela Whitemarsh, a bilingual mathematics teacher at Pasco High, has been named the 2026 Washington State Teacher of the Year by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Whitemarsh was recognized for her innovative work in expanding access to advanced math for multilingual newcomer students through the Advanced Multilingual Mathematics Program.

She is the first teacher from Pasco School District to receive this honor since 2008.
“Mrs. Whitemarsh is a remarkable educator who transforms the lives of her students through innovation, compassion, and dedication,” said Pasco High School Principal Veronica Machado.
