DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - While essential services should continue forward during a federal government shutdown, many services deemed nonessential would be put on hold.

UMD political science professor Dr. Cindy Rugeley says while the effects would be felt by most people only if the shutdown drags on, federal employees in the Northland would feel them immediately.

“If you work for the federal government, you’re going to notice it right now,” said Rugeley. “You’re going to notice it right off the bat. You’re not going to get paid.”

Outside of federal workers, Rugeley says most people shouldn’t be impacted significantly.
