Rome, N.Y. — A stretch of Route 46 in Rome has been dedicated in memory of Syracuse Police Officer Michael E. Jensen, who was killed in the line of duty last year.

Sen. Joseph Griffo (R-53) and Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon (D-119) joined Jensen’s family Friday to unveil new highway signs honoring the officer and Rome native. Local and state officials, law enforcement representatives from across the region and community members also attended the ceremony.

Griffo said Jensen “was a hero who demonstrated remarkable courage and bravery while running toward danger, ultimately sacrificing his own life while in service to others.”
