Police are trying to determine what happened to a woman who was found unconscious at a bus stop in east Phoenix, taken to a hospital and later died.

The hospital called Phoenix Police about 7:42 a.m. to say that a city fire crew brought in an unconscious woman found at a bus stop at 32nd Street and Thomas Road, according to an emailed statement from Phoenix Police.

"The woman died shortly after arriving at the hospital," police officials said in the release.

Officers went to the area near 32nd Street and Thomas Road and found a possible scene. Detectives investigated and processed the scene.

Police did not release additional details about the incident, including the woman's name, saying it all remains "a part of the ongoing investigation."
