ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - As Congress debates cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, the need for essential medical equipment looms large. One metro Atlanta nonprofit is working to fill the gap.
Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) operates a 65,000-square-foot warehouse in Tucker, where volunteers repair donated wheelchairs, walkers, and other home medical equipment before giving them away.
For Mitchell Tepper, who has lived with a spinal cord injury for 42 years, FODAC’s service is critical. He said that at FODAC, repairs that normally take months are completed in a day.
“A chair is our legs. If it breaks, we don’t go anywhere. This place keeps us moving,” said Tepper
