JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A Jefferson County resource for survivors of domestic violence is hoping to raise awareness for the services they offer.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month , and the executive director of One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center , Rebecca McWilliams, is calling domestic violence a public health crisis.

McWilliams says that in the month of September alone Jefferson County saw four domestic violence-related homicides, including the murder-suicide of Denise Tolbert , who was killed Sept. 24.

McWilliams says the resources they offer can make a difference in survival.

McWilliams also says domestic violence can impact more than the people involved, and that statistics show more than 70% of homicide offenders in Jefferson Coun
