KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Jackson County voters have removed County Executive Frank White Jr. from office in a historic recall election, ending his nine-year tenure.
Voters overwhelmingly chose to recall White, who struggled to reach 20 percent of the total vote much of the night. Advertisement
With nearly 100 percent of the vote in, White was down 85-15 percent.
The margins were even greater outside Kansas City, Missouri, where 90 percent of Jackson County voters outside KCMO supported the recall.
In some precincts, the "yes" vote won 95 to 5 percent.
The recall was placed on the ballot after organizers gathered more than 43,000 verified signatures earlier this year.
White had served as county executive since 2016.
A Royals legend, White was appointed temporary county executive in 2016.
