The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that 1,520 people died in weather-related incidents across the country between June and September 2025.

Most fatalities, over 1,500, occurred due to floods, rains, landslides, and flash floods, while 22 deaths were caused by heatwaves.

State-wise fatalities

Madhya Pradesh: 290 deaths (highest)

Uttar Pradesh: 201 deaths

Himachal Pradesh: 141 deaths

Jammu & Kashmir: 139 deaths

Maharashtra: 135 deaths

Jharkhand: 129 deaths

Monsoon season overview

India’s four-month monsoon season (June-September) ended on Tuesday. The country received 937.2 mm of rainfall, which is 8% above the normal 870 mm. The monsoon arrived early this year on May 24, eight days ahead of the usual June 2 onset.
