LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- A boss during the day and full-on glam diva and house mother at night, that was the life of Norman Jones, better known as Norma Kristie.
FOX 16 News had a chance to sit down with Melanie Masters and Chris Davis to discuss how Jones would be remembered in the drag community.
"She revolutionized how the female impersonation worked in our nation," Masters said.
Masters serves as the 54th Miss Gay Arkansas, and Chris Davis, who was Miss Gay Arkansas in 2022, said there is a deep history behind Norma's revolution in the gay community in Arkansas.
"She was the first crowned Miss Gay America in 1973, after winning the title of the first gay Miss Arkansas America. This was the first pageant of its time," Masters said.
Norma went on to own the pageant, trailblazing what it m
