INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Education has cut money for a program that was helping thousands of students across Indiana.

Kathryn Reckard, assistant superintendent for Lafayette School Corporation, told 13News that Sept. 30 would be the last day the district would receive funding for their GEAR UP grant program.

The initiative was run through Purdue University as a prep program.

"We are grateful for the opportunities that we have had for our kids and our school community," Reckard said.

Reckard said the district got an email from Purdue, saying DOE was cutting funding to the program, since the grant does not align with the Trump administration's policies and priorities.
