Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organiser of the North East India Festival (NEIF), and Siddhartha Sharma, manager of late singer Zubeen Garg, have been arrested in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore.
Mahanta was taken into custody upon arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport from Singapore, while Sharma was arrested from a residence in Gurugram.
Both were flown to Guwahati early Wednesday morning, according to senior police officials.
The arrests come amid an ongoing investigation led by a 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by the Assam government and headed by Special DGP M.P. Gupta.
The probe is focused on the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death, which occurred on September 19 due to drowning in the sea in Singapore.
